0251. Nelson Bailey Meader (1818 – 1881)

Nelson Bailey Meader, son of Stephen Baggage Meader (1779-1855) [0132] and Mary Bailey (  –  ), was born November 25, 1818, probably in Ryegate, VT, and died in 1881, apparently in Winona, Winona, Minnesota.

He learned the bookbinders trade and engaged in the lumber business in Chicopee, MA where he made himself a home. He married Elizabeth Hogan.

After the loss of his small son, who fell between his father and mother and was instantly killed, he sold his business and home and went to Winona, a new town organized in 1849. He held various offices there, collected rents for Judge Story [apparently not Justice Joseph Story, who died in 1845], and it was in Winona that his wife died.

The child of Nelson Meader and Elizabeth Hogan was:
i. Frank Meader, who died at the age of 2 1/2 years.
